Collaboration at the Heart of Resilience
Collaboration is at the heart of the Precilience project, bringing together researchers, regional and local stakeholders, community groups, businesses and decision-makers to ensure that proposed solutions are appropriate to local, regional and national contexts. As such, continuous stakeholder engagement is a project priority, from consultation through to testing solutions in practice.
“The Precilience project is intended to produce the highest quality climate and risk modelling available, and to develop precision solutions that effectively mitigate those risks in boreal forests and farms. To develop solutions that are practical – and likely to be adopted by landowners, communities, businesses and policy makers – the project is working to ensure that these groups and individuals are actively involved in the creation, development and adoption of solutions. As a project, we aim to incentivise the uptake of climate adaptation solutions by producing win-win-win scenarios, for example, by introducing solutions that might benefit landowners, industries and the finance sector simultaneously.” - Lauri Moisander, leading Precilience stakeholder engagement activities.

Early Case Study in Collaboration: Kalnes High School in South-Eastern Norway
The forests in south-eastern Norway are facing increasing threats relating to elk and deer browsing, weevils, bark beetles, drought and rot. In farming, there are increasing concerns for soil health and water resources. In this region, Kalnes Agricultural High School is testing and conducting research on climate adaptation in agriculture and forestry, collaborating with various national and international partners to share knowledge and results.
Precilience is engaging the school as project stakeholder. The involvement of the school provides the project with a valuable opportunity to engage young people, inspiring the next generation of potential farmers and foresters.
Kalnes Agricultural High School
Kalnes Agricultural High School has decades of experience in trialling organic and regenerative farming methods and testing new technologies and equipment. Healthy soil and adequate water management are research focal points – with the use of retention ponds and buffer zones around watercourses – being key. Project partner NIBIO is leading Precilience’s collaborative work with Kalnes High School, looking together at how to effectively reduce threats in south-eastern Norway.

The Road Ahead: Ongoing Collaboration and Participation
With the active participation of stakeholders at a local, regional, national and international level, Precilience aims to ensure the outcomes of the project are readily available and at the disposal of stakeholders in each of the focal regions in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia.
